Robby the Robot, Gaybot & PlayBoytoy!

It was circa 1978, and my sister and I were so bored hanging around my mother's small office on E.49th Street. So we decided to catch a double feature at the then MGM Regency theater, one of those last remaining grande ornate theaters.

It was a boy's dream cum true, they were playing a matinee double feature of The Time Machine and Forbidden Planet. I hadn't seen either so this was going to be a roller coaster ride for little 10 year old Robocub. Although Star Wars had just come out, these fantastic movies from decades prior still amazed me. I've always been a die hard sci-fi affecianado.

And my love for robots was just about to intensify. My first love of all was for robot B9 on Lost in Space, and I was about to discover that B9's cousin, Robby would become my all time second love of my life.

Now some 29 years later, I've cum to discover that my second love of my life was gay!

Black Party 2008 theme

Robopapi just showed this to me on YouTube. I was thinking it would be a great theme for next years (2008) Black Party theme. This is totally hot (but not like Paris Hilton).

Overheard this morning...

...at my local gayborhood Citibank.

The Citibank security guard says to another customer: So are you going to the Cotillion this weekend?

Customer: Well I'm going out to the Party.

Security guard: yeah, the Black Cotillion.

Me (interjecting): I love that! "the Cotillion".

Security guard: well I'm going really late, like 5am.

Me (thinking): damn! I'd love some of that security guard friskiness at a party from you!

Gold-tipped circuit boards & transistors, or is it wood?

I'll take wood(y)!

Today we celebrate our 1,825th day (5 years for the mathematically challenged, like myself.."that does not compute") together...and in typical fashion for us since our anniversary falls on or near Black Party weekend...we will be celebrating with some close friends as well as a few new ones at Alegria (March 25th).

But for tonight, a lovely dinner at our favorite little hole in the wall (not a glory hole, but close), Mario's Trattoria. And we will be exchanging new rings this year, made out of Tungsten Carbide, a nearly indestructible alloy that's harder than Titanium. What better a gift for two robo-lovers.

Run Jamie, Run!

One of my favorite TV shows as a kid was the Bionic Woman. I actually liked it better than the Six Million Dollar Man. Why? Well because Jamie Somers had emotions and she expressed them bionically. Plus the fact I loved watching her do a bionic hair flip, where she would toss her hair and you would hear the bionic sound. That always cracked me up. And then of course there was that gorgeous bionic German Shepherd, Max(amillion).

Well here is one of my favorite scenes where Jamie is being attacked by the terrible Fembots. I always hated that snitty little Calahan who was Oscar's secretary. But oh Jamie, that home decor is really horrendous.

Roxy's Last Dance Sabotaged by Madonna

Since we hadn't originally planned to attend the last night of the Roxy, I wasn't really disappointed by the outcome of the night's events. We arrived early (by NYC standards) at 10:50pm. Heading south along the West Side Highway in a cab towards 18th Street. As we approached I saw the huge line that by this early hour had already wrapped around the corner of 11th Avenue up to 19th Street. In the half hour since we arrived the line had already grown to reach W20th Street. Of course wouldn't you know it, Mother Nature decided to rain on us. Luckily it wasn't 13 degrees out like a few nights earlier.

Waiting on line wasn't so bad. It actually would move about 10 feet every 10 minutes. I won't do the math because I have no idea how many hundreds of feet we were from the Roxy's entrance. There were thousands of people, oddly enough mostly twinks (ie; 20-something little gay guys). Amongst the clattering voices of untold numbers, I kept hearing Madonna. Madonna this...Madonna that. I heard the rumor that Madonna was supposed to make an appearance, but I never care or listen to those rumors. But now it all makes sense as to why the huge twink turnout.

By now we had been waiting in the rain for close to an hour or a little more. My sense of time completely vanished at this point. Only my trusty chronometer kept me informed. Our friend Robert had passed by and waited with us. And then this rather large man walked right up to us and wanted to know if we'd like to follow him and get about 17 feet from the entrance. I thought, wow 17 feet...what an odd number. I looked at him and rather curtly snapped, who are you? He had buldging pockets in his sweat-jacket and claimed to work for the Roxy. So I said, well what would you like? He said $20 a head to get ahead...without thinking for more than 3 seconds I said forget it. I wasn't in the mood to pay another $60 (on top of the regular entrance fee) just so I could follow this guy who I had no idea who he was or if he really could get us ahead. No matter, I was seriously loosing interest in the whole affair anyway.

And as I looked around I began to realize that even if we were to gain entry, I was thinking I'm not particularly impressed with this twink crowd and therefore I'm not even sure I want to be like a sardine inside the Roxy with all these twinks. So I put forth the question, do we want to wait any longer and stated my "twinky" case. My trio whole heartedly agreed and off we zoomed in a cab and headed for the dry warmth of the Eagle.

The Day After...

Of course I was dying to know how fabulous or amazingly horrible the Roxy's Last Dance turned out. I received emails from friends and read Peter Rauhofer's message boards. This is what I found out...

Our friend Robert who waited with us had a friend who was about 100 feet ahead of us in line. He didn't gain entry till around 2:30am, about 2 hours (DST factored) after we left. And yes it was still raining. Once he got in, the ticket line was another long line and yet after that the coat check line was even longer. I had no doubt in my mind that leaving was the best decision I've made in my life in recent history.

I then read that Madonna was in fact supposed to show up. Which explains all the twinks and the fact that I didn't recognize a single face in all those thousands of people waiting on line. BUT, she canceled her appearance at around 1:30am, apparently due to the police telling Madonna's people they didn't think it was safe for her to come and that it was basically madness at the Roxy. So the bitch Madonna was gonna come and then canceled. Had I known any of this, I would've showed up at the Roxy at 2 or 3am, probably walked right in and had a funtastic time. I hope for all those who did make it in, that you had a great time, cuz it would seem such a shame that the Last Dance would turn out to be a super sucky waste of time.

For an entirely different perspective on the night's event, click here for all the news thats fit to print. And for an entirely pissed-off point of view rant from a long time Roxy goer, read this message thread over at PeterRauhofer.com: Topic: Another reason why Roxy/JBlair must go

Keep in mind y'all, life and clubland will go on. Live long and prosper.

I really don't finger myself often enough as I should.
But I much prefer being fingered by another.

So so so so f**kin' hot!

I remember seeing this cover in a Superman compilation book I had since I was 10, and it was the source of endless fantasies for me as child.

And the winners are....

I guess I blogged about the Black Party DJ rumors too soon. They have been officially announced...

  • Michael Marx 10pm-4am
  • Tony Moran 4am-11am
  • Michael Fierman 11am-closing
  • with Rich King & Gustavo (of SNAXX) in the balcony lounge.

And funny, none of the rumors were even close (see previous blog post below).

NYC party-time rumor mill

I can't say this is particularly interesting, especially if you're not in NYC or interested in clubs and parties. But I love to stir the pot, so why not...

The Black Party DJ's are always a big source of speculation. Here are the rumors I hear around town as to who is scheduled to DJ at this notorious über party...
  • DJ DeMarko
  • DJ Brett Hendrickson
  • DJ Chad Jack
  • DJ SuperChumbo

In other club rumor (old) news...well this isn't so much a rumor as fact. Roxy will be closing it's doors finally after 17+ years. The building will be demolished to make way for more purification, er I mean gentrification of the extended Meat Packing district. A faux-glamourous hotel will be erected in it's place. The supposed Roxy's last party is scheduled for March 10th. Who knows if there will even be a last party.

And apparently the only new gay Saturday night alternative to the Roxy, has decided to change from a gay Saturday night to a HipHop night, as if there aren't enough of those. Club Stereo promised to be a great alternative to the larger Roxy. I'm personally very disappointed and saddened to hear this news. I had really high hopes for Stereo at the old Octagon. I love the space. They just need some great DJs and perhaps once the Roxy is dead and buried, the gay folk would've flocked to Stereo. I know I woulda. Up until now, it seems Stereo just hasn't been attracting enough of a gay crowd. If you'd like to broadcast your two-cents about Stereo, then contact Mark Nelson.
