Windows on my Mac, Heeeellll No!
I really don't understand what all the hoopla is about having Windows running on a Macintosh (only on the new Intel based Mac models). Well maybe it's a big deal for the drone legions of Windows users. But for a Mac user like me, I have no interest in having Windows on my Mac. Why on Earth would you even want to use Windows when you have the Mac OS?
I'm only hoping that this is Apple's way of getting more Windows users to buy a Mac and trying out the Mac OS. Because once you go Mac, you never go back. 'Tis true. The very interesting result in the news is that the new Intel based Mac hardware seems to run Windows and other PC software better than a typical ugly ol' PC. Now ain't that amusing. I suppose it's called quality engineering.
But seriously, I'm a techy and have been using Macintosh since 1988. I also don't live in a vacuum. I've had lots of experience using Windows. I choose not to use it because I know it sucks and I know I don't have to use it and neither do you. Case in point, my man Eddie used to have a Dell laptop. Even as a techy guy, it was a constant vigilance on a daily basis to keep that thing clean and running smooth because of constant spyware threats and virus concerns. I finally had it, and we threw the damn Dell running Windows laptop in the trash. My man now has a vintage Mac G4 Cube on his desk. He loves it, and amazingly for 6 year old "vintage" technolgy, it seemingly runs faster and better than that 2 year old Dell now at the bottom of a landfill somewhere. I'm tellin' ya, it's all about the operating system.
Now I don't wanna come across like Mac and Apple hardware are a problem free blessing to the Human race. As with any machine, they all have issues at one time or another. Systems cans crash, files can go bad, and of course there's the human error element.
But here's how I see things from my informed perspective, where myths don't apply;
Oi, I really should stop the OS wars rant here. I've kinda made a promise to myself that I would not rant this rant anymore. However I have agreed with myself that I will never ever tell anyone to buy a PC running Windows and will always suggest a Mac. I also will never ever give friends technical support for Windows, but will try to help when I can for their Mac issues.
But I guess ultimately the fact that you can run Windows on Mac hardware is about choice, and better options and choices are always a good thing.

- Even though Mac OS now runs on Intel based Macs, it's still a better sleeker easier operating system with much better security. It's all about the OS, not necessarily the hardware it runs on, which is what all the talk is about now. Granted the move to Intel (the engine), I think is a good one only because they are fast and backed by a rather large company.
- Windows itself is at the root of the security issues for all PCs because it's such a legacy ridden piece of software, meaning it tries to be all things to too many old and outdated PCs, equipment, and other software.
- The Mac OS is essentially UNIX with a very pretty face on it. UNIX was built with security in mind. It may not be perfect but it's a hell of a lot less prone to security issues than the leaky drafty Windows. Even as the Mac OS becomes more popular and will attract the attention of hackers and evil doers, it's still a much more secure system and much harder to crack or attack.
- It is a total myth that there is more software available for Windows than Mac. But to be real, yes, quantity wise, there is more software for Windows. But what kinds of software? Total shit that you would never even use. There is a bounty of software available for Macintosh, in fact every major software package you could want runs on Macs. And most of them actually started on Macs first.
